CNC Machine Programmer

Position Summary

Listed work hours (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)

Plans computer Numerical control (CNC) program to control contour path machining of metal parts on automatic machine tools by performing the below duties. Assists the Manufacturing Manager by directing other team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- include the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Programming:
    • Analyzes drawings, sketches, and models to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates.
    • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors
    • Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths.
    • Writes instruction sheets and cutter assembly drawings to guide setup and operation of machine.
    • Selects tooling, order of operations, back-up and store programs, tool list and set-up sheets.
    • Writes program of machine instructions in symbolic language to encode numerical control tape or direct numerical control database to regulate movement of machine along cutting path.
    • Observes operation of machine on trial run to verify conformance of finished parts to specifications.
    • Compares encoded tape or computer printout with original program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions.
    • Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
  • CNC Operations:
    • Sets up and operates various CNC machines as needed
    • Performs a variety of inspection and gauging operations to ensure maintenance of quality standards and specification.
    • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product
  • Team Leadership:
    • Responds to questions, issues, and concerns of team members.
    • Recognizes exceptional performance to motivate team members with positive reinforcement such as providing them with cross-training opportunities and updating Skill Matrices.
    • Trains team members in standard procedures and techniques
    • Determines work priorities and communicates them to team members.
    • Assigns work tasks to team members on a daily basis.
    • Ensures work instructions are followed as well as assisting with the establishment or modification of work instructions.
  • Monitors and records inventory used (tooling, supplies and raw materials) and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Cleans machine, tooling and parts and performs machine maintenance as required.
  • Qualifies measuring tools on a daily basis.
  • Maintains appropriate records.
  • Adheres to quality and safety standards as required by Cryomech in regards to all equipment to increase efficiency of shop and/or department employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of Apprenticeship Program
  • Associates degree and 4 years or more related experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Partsmaker Software and programming of lathes and mills.
